                                                              First Aid

Today we went to a first aid lesson with Nicoli, we learnt how to help an unconscious person.
Allergies, asthma and  accidents can also make people unconscious.

Unconscious people
We learnt that if someone is hurt we should always look around yourself and other people around you (especially moving vehicles) before helping the wounded person.
Once you are next to the person you have to check if the person can hear you by shaking their shoulder gently and saying "Hi my name is.... can you hear me?".
Then you must send for help by calling 111. Then you must open their airway by tilting their head backwards gently, then you put your hand over their face for 10 seconds or look at their stomach and watch it go up and down to make sure the person is breathing.
Not breathing? then you put the person on their side by putting one arm to the side and the other across their chest, then lift  both their legs up and carefully flip them over towards you and lift their head up to open their airway.
Unfortunately we did not learn the CPR.

Stings
We also learnt that if  you get a sting you must ask an adult to  remove sting, by flicking it off, then you have to ask if  they have been stung before. After they have flicked the sting off,  you have to put an ice pack on top of the sting.

Minor wounds
If you get hurt you must always wash it with clean water before doing anything. Then cover it with a band-aid.

Burns
Burns come from from ice, carpet, steam, hot water, stove and the sun(if you get sun burned stay under the shower).Cover the threat with cold running water for 20 minutes.Burns-cover it with a piece of glad wrap(but don't wrap around)if  the burn gets bigger seek medical help.

Cuts and bleeding
If you get a cut or you are bleeding, hold a tea towel or any other types of cloths to stop the bleeding(you must squeeze the cloth)then raise their hand and wrap it tightly with a band-aid.
